About Shaw Green Dahlias
We have a unique collection of Dahlia tubers, seeds, rooted cuttings and potted plants available to order all year round
Shaw Green Dahlias is based West Lancashire
The weather is fair most of the year round. Being higher up, we are a little more exposed to the wind than the rest of the local area, however we have some carefully placed wind breaks and even a 30 year old Pine forest that protects us. The general wind helps the plants develop tough strong shoots and a better tolerance to adverse conditions.
We grow a lot of our own Dahlias from either seeds or cuttings. Occasionally through tuber division. Each method has different results, ups and downs.
Seeds give us lots of new possibilities for new cultivars and a huge array of different flowers.
If we need exact clones of strong parent plants, we’ll take cuttings – this guarantees it will be an exact copy – it also gives bright and vivid colours in year one.
We’re busy all year round. From January where we are grading and preparing tubers for sending out our pre-orders and orders. Come March and April, we are bringing some tubers on early in our glass house to start taking cuttings from. We do this on a large scale so we have lots of rooted cuttings ready. This goes on for a few months. In May and June we’re busy sending out the cuttings and potted plants. During the Summer we’re busy tending to our Dahlia beds here at the nursery, pruning, trimming and dead heading. As soon as Autumn arrives, we’re preparing our stock for either over-wintering or grading the tubers ready to send out again.
We adhere to industry leading biosecurity measures, this ensures that our nursery remains clean and disease free.
We are DEFRA registered and our nursery is regularly inspected to confirm compliance with all current plant and plant health regulations.
Our Plant Passport Registration Number is GB140010
